Hello! My name is Chewy and I am a Seattle based performance artist, music teacher, singer-songwriter, and street performer. I am a queer, non-binary person of Mexican, Salvadoran, and Filipinx descent. I am bilingual in Spanish and English and I sing and teach in both languages!
I center my teaching work and performance art around the communities that I have been formed by and am a part of: people of color, immigrants, queer and trans people, and/or womxn. I strive to use my unique experience working with trauma and in community to provide music lessons that center healing and share music that reflects my experiences.
I have been performing in choirs and have been involved in musical theater ever since I was a child. I have participated in acapella group and studied vocal performance in the Universidad Iberoamericana in Puebla while getting my B.A. in International Studies and Spanish. I first began playing the acoustic ukulele 5 years ago and have been singing and playing my ukulele in community and street performing ever since. I have tutored students in technical writing and taught English language learning classes in immigrant Latinx community.
Cost and the intimidating nature of lessons prohibited me from receiving private music lessons. I offer pay what you can lessons to the community as a way to build community and make lessons affordable and accessible to those who can most benefit from them!
